What to do when the perfect quiz does not exist? Create your own

One afternoon, while browsing the internet looking for a quiz that would really test my video game knowledge, I realized that all the options available were too predictable and repetitive. I decided to create my own quiz, although I knew that the challenge would be great, since I had no experience in web development or the use of artificial intelligence. Everything changed when I discovered Cursor, a development environment with integrated AI, which greatly facilitated the process and allowed me to approach the project in a much simpler way than I had imagined.

Getting started with AI: How Claude-3.5-Sonnet made building my app easy

From the first moment, Cursor surprised me with its intuitive design and its fluid integration with Visual Studio Code, which allowed me to move forward smoothly in my project. Its organized interface and the power of AI made me feel ready to go right away. Consulting their chatbot, which uses the Claude-3.5-Sonnet model, it suggested tools like React and automatically generated a working structure for my Nintendo quiz, without requiring me to write a line of code. This saved me time and demonstrated the potential of AI in web development.

As I progressed, I used the chatbot for more complex tasks, such as adjusting question review logic and creating game mode unlock functions based on variables. Although the AI struggled at this stage, it managed to build the foundation it needed, allowing me to make minor adjustments to get everything working perfectly. I was surprised by Cursor's ability to solve tasks that normally would have taken me much more time and effort.

The Ultimate Test: Integrating AI question generation and application deployment

The biggest challenge came when I decided to implement the Gemini API to generate new questions every time users started a game in the quiz. I had never worked with an AI API before and felt completely lost, but the Cursor chatbot guided me step by step, from obtaining the API key to implementing the system. Although the first attempts did not work, on the third attempt the questions began to be generated correctly. Still, I had some issues with Gemini's answers, but the chatbot adjusted the prompt to improve the accuracy of the questions generated. Although the solution wasn't perfect at the beginning, the bot did all the hard work, and I only had to fine-tune a few details. This showed me how AI can be a great help in times when a programmer faces a new challenge.

In the final stages of development, I noticed that the AI was starting to struggle to adapt to the increasing complexity of the app, especially on the mobile version, which didn't look quite right. Although Cursor couldn't do all the mobile adaptation, its AI helped me considerably and, together with my own adjustments, I achieved a satisfactory result. Despite its limitations, especially as a free tool, AI was key to solving specific problems and clarifying technical doubts. Even at critical moments, such as uploading to GitHub and deploying to Vercel, the chatbot guided me step by step, ensuring that everything worked correctly.

Looking Toward an Accessible Future: The impact of these tools on technological development and learning

Cursor is not just a tool; represents a significant advance in the way we approach application development and learning new technologies. For those facing challenges such as implementing APIs or deploying applications, this app transforms complex tasks into simple and accessible processes. As artificial intelligence continues its evolution, the possibility of learning and applying programming knowledge expands, democratizing access to technology. This could revolutionize not only the way developers work, but also how newbies enter the world of programming. With tools like Cursor, the future promises to be a space where programming becomes more intuitive and collaborative, bringing more people closer to technological creation and development.
